Domestic Workers in Netherlands on Strike

Domestic Workers Campaign for Collective Agreement

Jan 2012 - Domestic workers in the Netherlands have joined the national cleaners industry association in their strike action. While domestic workers who work under agencies are part of the same collective agreement as the cleaners, the majority of Dutch domestic workers are privately employed and are not covered. All domestic workers, however, are part of this action. Their demands include:

1) To be fully recognized as workers--even when privately employed--with access to social security such as pensions, sick days and vacation time

2) Ratification of the Convention 189 by their national government
