Coalition of Informal Economy Associations of Swaziland (CIEAS)
The Coalition of Informal Economy Associations of Swaziland (CIEAS) was founded in 2006 by marginalized community-based organizations striving to earn a living by carrying out different projects to generate income. As of 2010, CIEAS had 12,600 members working as informal street traders; approximately 60 per cent of the members are women. CIEAS’s leadership is democratically elected.
CIEAS has established branches in all four regions of Swaziland, and seeks to bring together all informal traders in the country to support each other in economic and political development. CIEAS also works to unite its members with other allied movements to work towards changing the country’s policies to be inclusive and pro-poor.
