Ghana Trades Union Congress

Ghana TUC logoThe Trades Union Congress (TUC) of Ghana is the main umbrella organisation for trade union activities in Ghana, made up of seventeen affiliated autonomous national unions. The TUC is the official mouthpiece of unionised labour in its dealing with government and with the employers association. It currently has a total membership of about 500,000 members. It is non-political – the constitution debars all elected officials from identifying with any political party.

The Ghana TUC co-ordinates all the activities of national unions actively organising workers in the informal sector through the Informal Sector Desk located in its organising department. Their activities include developing programmes, linking up with national unions and organising workshops. The TUC established and continues to support the StreetNet Ghana Alliance. Several affiliates have joined the Alliance and members of the TUC Informal Sector Desk sit on its committee. Ghana TUC is affiliated to the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).
