StreetNet International (SNI) and Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO) cordially invite you to join us for the launch of a new synthesis research study, “Enabling social protection within the informal economy: Lessons from worker-led schemes in Nigeria, Uganda and Togo”.
This study emerges out of a joint SNI WIEGO project, New Forms of Social Insurance for the Economic Inclusion of Women Informal Workers, which aims to increase the knowledge base on what works for informal workers in relation to social protection, and to capacitate informal workers and their organisations to:
Please join us as we discuss the three worker-led social protection scheme case studies covered in the report, and reflect on what we can learn from them in terms of factors that enable and disable the realisation of social protection for informal workers, and what parallels there exist between these case studies and other global experiences in the solidarity economy.
These studies include: the Mutual Social Protection Scheme for Workers in the Informal Sector (MUPROSI) health mutual based in Togo, the Kampala Metropolitan Boda-Boda Entrepreneurs’ Savings and Credit Cooperative (KAMBE SACCO) in Uganda and the Federation of Informal Workers Organisation of Nigeria (FIWON) savings cooperative.
