HomeNet Southeast Asia, a sub-regional network of national networks of home-based workers, together with WIEGO, will promote a series of regional dialogues on the Social Protection for Home-Based Workers in ASEAN. The main goal of this series is to encourage political dialogue between the ASEAN Member States and home-based workers on the key challenges facing the social protection of this occupational group.
The first – on March 2 – will focus on the situation of the home-based workers, particularly understanding the impact of COVID-19 on their livelihoods. It also aims to present the social protection needs from the six HomeNet affiliate countries in the region.
ILO Asia Pacific will tackle the existing international labour standards on the protection of home-based workers and key recommendations on how the ASEAN Member States can extend social protection for informal workers. Each Member States will also present its initiatives in response to the social protection of home-based workers and the ASEAN Secretariat will give an update on the implementation of the ASEAN Declaration on Strengthening Social Protection and other related declarations. Finally, this event aims to identify actions that must be taken in promoting social protection for home-based workers.
