Informal Worker Addresses the Plenary, ILC 2014

Poornima Chikarmane addresses the ILC plenary on behalf of Suman More.

 

Suman More has been a member of the waste picker's union Kagad Kach Patra Kashtakari Panchayat (KKPKP) in Pune, India for 21 years. She is currently a board member of SWaCH (India's first wholly-owned cooperative of self-employed waste pickers) and KKPKP. Suman, who began waste picking with her parents when she was 13 years old, is today a prominent leader in her community and has attended various events in the past to speak on behalf of waste pickers, including the 2011 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Durban, South Africa.

 

Poornima Chikarmane is Associate Professor at SNDT Women's University, Pune, India. She works with both KKPKP and SWaCH.
