The global networks of workers in informal employment engage in global advocacy spaces to gain recognition and visibility for the movement of workers in informal employment. Our role at WIEGO is to support these engagements through research, statistics, and joint advocacy.
Global Advocacy & Negotiations
What Is WIEGO's Work on Global Advocacy and Negotiations?WIEGO collaborates with workers’ organizations so they can represent their interests and voice their demands in global advocacy spaces.
Why Are Global Advocacy & Negotiations Important for Workers in Informal Employment?Recognition of workers in informal employment in global advocacy spaces can lead to their inclusion in new global labour standards, and urban and climate-change regulations, guidelines and policies.
Without the participation of membership-based organizations of workers in informal employment, workers’ needs, contributions and demands are not adequately recognized or considered. Global standards negotiated without the participation of these organizations will likely have a less meaningful impact on the lives of the billions of women and men in informal employment. As workers’ organizations demand: “Nothing for us without us!”
