In December 2024, WIEGO launched its new website with the objective of improving the user experience, accessibility and access to information. Through updates to the design, content and back-end technology of our site, we have made improvements in its visual accessibility, mobile-friendliness and readability. Our improved information architecture and navigation aims to make it simpler and clearer for users to find the information they need.
The new WIEGO website features a new organization of WIEGO’s work into thematic areas, including Climate Change and Just Transition, Public and Workplace Services, Legal Empowerment and more, while forefronting our historic programmatic expertise. It also includes an all-new Research Library, which forefronts our research on the informal economy through a stronger search functionality with simpler filtering capabilities, and an Advocacy and Worker Education Hub which houses hundreds of resources, guides, toolkits and other advocacy and education materials for workers in informal employment and their organizations.
Led by WIEGO’s Communications Team, the project has involved a wide range of stakeholders from across the organization, including WIEGO’s Management Team and members from across our Programme Teams.
We want to enable our audiences to access the latest research, statistics and insights on the informal economy and workers in informal employment. The new website confirms our commitment to promoting accessibility and inclusivity in our communications - whether you are a worker leader looking for a guide to engaging in collective negotiations, a researcher interested in extending social protection to workers in informal employment or a city official searching for inspiration in building inclusive waste management systems” said Kendra Hughes, WIEGO’s Communications Director.
The Communications Team continues to work on technical and content improvements to ensure all users can access and benefit from the new WIEGO website.
