Social Protection for Home-Based Workers in Thailand

Thailand is taking steps to give people access to basic social protection, including providing universal health care and pension systems.

 

However, the development of social protection plans providing income support to the working population has mainly centered on civil servants and workers in the informal sector.

 

The government has attempted to extend coverage to include the informal economy -- which is 76% of the total population -- but coverage remains low,

 

In this video, members of HomeNet Thailand describe hardships without social protection and emphasize the need for a better plan for informal workers.
