The Power of Informal Transport Workers

By on January 01, 2017

In many parts of the world, transport – particularly urban passenger transport – is largely in the informal economy. The informal transport industry provides a meagre livelihood for millions of transport workers.

Informal transport workers provide essential services to society and the economy, yet are denied basic rights at work and are largely invisible to law-makers, policy-makers and city planners.

Since 2013, the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) has been supporting unions in organising and representing informal transport workers across the world, as part of the ITF Informal Transport Workers Project.
