By on November 01, 2015

In 2013, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) produced toolkit on Learning and Working in the Informal Economy with a focus on  skills development in the and for the informal economy.   Marty Chen, WIEGO International Coordinator, wrote a piece for the Toolkit on which focused on the skills needed by four groups of women informal workers – domestic workers, home-based workers, street vendors and waste pickers.  She highlighted the sector-specific skills required by each group of informal workers – including technical and business skills – and the common skills required by all groups in order to be able to negotiate and influence the wider environment that impacts their work – namely, leadership, advocacy and collective bargaining.
