Sector Findings:

In both 2020 and 2021, WIEGO assessed the impact of the COVID‑19 crisis on specific groups of informal workers and their households, in 11 cities around the world. The two rounds of the study included a survey questionnaire and in‑depth interviews, both conducted mostly by phone. Round 1 assessed the impact of the first wave of the COVID‑19 virus and associated restrictions in April 2020 and mid‑2020 compared to February 2020 (the pre‑COVID‑19 base line). Round 2 assessed how informal workers experienced successive waves of the COVID‑19 virus and ongoing economic strains between mid‑2020 and mid‑2021, and to what extent (if any) they had recovered work and earnings by mid‑2021 (compared to February 2020).
