As Brazil enters a strategic moment in addressing climate change, this webinar offers a space for dialogue on the role of the circular economy as a tool for mitigation, with a focus on innovative solutions, social inclusion, and the promotion of decent work.

A side event to the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF), this webinar is organized by WIEGO, in collaboration with the Circular Economy Thematic Chamber of the Brazilian Forum on Climate Change (FBMC). Panelists will explore:

  • How the circular economy can contribute to mitigating climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions across different sectors of the economy;
  • The challenges and opportunities to ensure that the transition to a circular economy is just and inclusive, especially for workers in informal employment and other groups in vulnerable situations;
  • How organizations in Brazil plan to implement and/or strengthen the issue of decent and fair work for waste pickers; and
  • How circular food systems can be part of this transition, considering the need for cities to adapt to climate change.

Speakers include:

  • Sonia Dias (Waste Specialist at WIEGO)
  • Fábio Brasiliano (Director of Sustainable Development and Director of the “Mãos Pro Futuro” Program at ABIHPEC)
  • Léa Gejer (Technical Coordinator, Brazil at ICLEI)
  • Paula Pariz (Program Coordinator for Inclusive Circular Economy, AVINA)
  • Nanci Darcolete (Executive Director and Waste Picker, Pimp My Carroça)
  • Isabella Scorzelli (Industry Specialist, Instituto E+)
  • Marcos Albuquerque (Executive Director, Katalisar)

The panel will be moderated by Ricardo Abussafy, Coordinator of the Circular Economy Thematic Chamber of the Brazilian Forum on Climate Change (FBMC).
