Africities Summit 2018

Africities is a pan-African event that brings together local authorities, financial institutions, development partners and civil society stakeholders from across the continent every three years. The event is hosted by the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG). 

A WIEGO Focal Cities Delegation attended Africities 2018 to launch a series of knowledge products created through the project Public Space for All, in partnership with Cities Alliance. WIEGO Delegates included: Dorcas Ansah, Accra Focal City Coordinator, Adama Soumaré, Dakar Focal City Coordinator and Jenna Harvey, Global Focal City Coordinator. In addition to presenting the toolkit for policy-makers, discussion paper and worker education manual created through the Public Space for All project, WIEGO delegates spoke about their experiences supporting informal workers organizations in negotiating with city authorities over the right to work in public space.
