The preparatory process for the Delhi master plan 2021-2041 is already underway. The new master plan will lay the foundation for the city-state’s development in the next two decades and holds the potential to serve as a benchmark and guide for increasing inclusion in India’s capital city. However, if this is to be the case, citizen engagement in the plan development process will be critical. In this event, co-hosted by WIEGO Focal City Delhi and IGSSS (Indo-Global Social Service Society), a broad-based group of civil society actors convened to discuss their individual agendas for the master plan and for the city more broadly. A principal objective of the event was to find shared points across these agendas, and to build momentum and interest for the formation of a coalition to collectively intervene in the consultative process around the plan. The participants included urban planners, academics, activists in areas ranging from education to homelessness, and worker groups representing street vendors, home-based workers, construction workers and waste pickers.
