University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa
Waste pickers in South Africa are finally being recognized and valued for their contributions to the environment, economy and urban life. While we are only starting to explore how to integrate waste pickers, other BRICS countries have decades of relevant experience.

This public seminar shared current approaches to waste picker integration in South Africa and lessons that can be drawn from Brazil and India.

WIEGO’s Waste Picker Specialist, Dr. Sonia Dias presented on Brazil’s experience.
