UN HLP Report Presentation to Secretary-General
-
September 22, 2016
During the 71st session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, the UN High-Level Panel for Women’s Economic Empowerment (UN HLP for WEE) launched their first report. WIEGO and SEWA were represented on the panel and, since March of 2016, advocated for informal workers’ demands and perspectives to be reflected in the report document. The report outlined an agenda for promoting women’s economic empowerment globally and was the first of two which were released by the UN HLP for WEE during the course of the panel process, which concluded in March of 2017. Panelist Renana Jhabvala (Chair of WIEGO board) and Deputy Marty Chen (WIEGO International Coordinator), represented WIEGO at the report launch. WIEGO Writer and Research Assistant Jenna Harvey and Law Programme Director Marlese Von Broembsen also attended. During the launch UN HLP panelists and deputies formally presented the report to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
