Harvard’s South Asia Institute organized two webinars on home-based workers in India. WIEGO’s International Coordinator, Marty Chen, was the subject expert, and the discussions were moderated by WIEGO’s home-based workers specialist Shalini Sinha.

The first webinar session, entitled “Home-Based Workers: Invisible and Voiceless“, highlighted constraints and challenges when own homes are also workplaces, especially for women workers. The session took place on December 13th, at 6:30-8:00 pm IST (8:00-9:30 am EST).

The second part of the webinar,  “Cities and Home-Based Workers”, highlighted how urban policies and plans have a direct and strong impact on home-based workers livelihood security. The webinar also showcased some promising examples of extending basic infrastructure to the homes-cum-workplaces of home-based workers  in India. Bijal Brahmbhatt, Director of Mahila Housing SEWA Trust, also participated in this session, which took place December 14th, 6:30-8:00 pm IST (8:00-9:30 am EST).
