These workers share how they have fought to secure their rights and livelihoods, including the Constitutional Court´s case in which they were granted the right to tender for public bids and to be remunerated for their services. |

Networking Event: Harnessing Economic Potential: Street Vending, Enterprise Growth, and Urban Equity This event focuses on one of the most visible yet marginalized actors in the urban economy: street vendors. Women leaders and activists from prominent workers’ movements in Latin America, Africa and Asia will speak, along with technical experts. Each speaker will describe specific, recent examples of how their cities and informal traders have worked together to achieve greater inclusion. |

Side Event: A Tale of 10 Cities: Findings from the Informal Economy Monitoring Study Over the past five years WIEGO, alongside its partners in the Inclusive Cities project, has monitored trends in the informal economy in 10 cities. At this celebratory event, WIEGO will launch the latest round of action research. Brief presentations will focus on the study’s main findings and recommendations for policymakers, urban activists and city planners. Printed summary reports and a USB containing more detailed reports will be distributed. |

Networking Event: Integrating Waste Pickers into Municipal Waste Management: Waste Pickers’ Struggles and Victories Millions of people worldwide make a living collecting, sorting, recycling and selling valuable materials that someone else has thrown away. Their work diverts tons of material from landfills, which is especially important given recycling is one of the easiest ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This event profiles how waste picker movements have secured a place in the waste system. It draws on the extensive experience of waste picker movements and technical experts in Colombia, Brazil, South Africa and India. |
