For over two and a half decades, the global network Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO) has worked alongside membership-based organisations of street vendors and market traders to secure livelihood centred approaches to, designing for, and regulating work in, public space. The webinar will start with reflections on public space trends over the COVID-19 and post COVID-19 period. The bulk of the webinar –a panel discussion with WIEGO team members– will draw on detailed in-city work in Lima, Dakar and Delhi.
Panelists will reflect on past and current innovations –in urban design, participatory planning, and law and infrastructure provision. It will also reflect on unprecedented challenges workers are facing now, and responses needed to secure livelihoods going forward. This is the second in a series of webinars being co-organized by WIEGO and the World Bank Urban team.
