Sonia Dias led two courses on waste management that focus on the important role that informal workers can play and are playing in municipal waste collection globally. She also addressed issues of gender and waste.
The goal was for participants in these courses -- practitioners, researchers and others interested in waste management issues -- to gain a new perspective on how waste management can be transformed into an efficient system that addresses both environmental and livelihood issues.
