Workers in the informal economy from six different sectors. A Domestic Worker, a Garment Worker, a Home-Based Worker, a Street Vendors / Market Trader, a Transport Worker, and a Waste Picker.

Home-based workers organizations and supporters from across the globe converged in Lima, Peru when WIEGO, together with the regional partnership for home-based workers in Latin America, Coordinadora Regional de Organizaciones de Trabajadores y Trabajadoras en Domicilio en América Latina y el Caribe (COTRADO-ALAC), hosted the Third Regional Meeting of Home-based Worker Organizations and Supporters in Latin America.

The 2019 meeting, held 18-19 September, provided a platform for the exchange of information and reflection on the realities and issues facing home-based workers in Latin America in an attempt to strengthen these organizations at the local, regional and global level.

Key objectives for the meeting included:

Strengthening home-based worker organizations
Sharing information on activities related to HBWs that WIEGO has developed in the Latin American region
Discussing organizational development challenges: planning, sustainability and communications
Discussing and defining the role of Coordinadora Regional de Organizaciones de Trabajadores y Trabajadoras en Domicilio en América Latina y el Caribe (COTRADO-ALAC) and establishing a committee
Discussing issues related to the process of creating HomeNet International

The Second Regional Meeting of Home-based Worker Organizations and Supporters was held in May 2017 in Santiago, Chile. During this meeting, the decision was made to create the Coordinadora Regional de Organizaciones de Trabajadores y Trabajadoras en Domicilio en América Latina y el Caribe (COTRADO-ALAC) , a regional partnership of HBWs that is currently working towards accelerating the progress of home-based workers’ rights in the region.
