The International Labour Organization (ILO) has produced a guidebook of practical tools to help policymakers, workers’ and employers’ organizations, and other stakeholders develop good policy and practices around extending social protections to informal workers and facilitating transitions to formality.
Extending Social Security to Workers in the Informal Economy: Lessons from international experience, published in November 2019, features two WIEGO resources. The monthly podcast series Informal Economy Podcast: Social Protection was cited as a source of accessible information that is making an important contribution to raising awareness.
Also highlighted in the guidebook was the C189 toolkit for the African region, developed by the International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF) and WIEGO. The publication, which provides information to support advocacy, was cited as a good example of a partnership that informs workers and employers about their rights and obligations.
