Collective Bargaining by Informal Workers in the Global South: Where and How It Takes Place
This Working Paper examines what collective negotiation (bargaining) looks like and what it means for informal worker organizations and their members. It fills a gap in the research about how the informal self-employed access opportunities to bargain with entities that have some power over the conditions of their work. Using cases of street vendor and home-based worker experiences, it explores some of the ways in which negotiation is combined with other approaches and offers examples of gains that have been made.
