Outworkers and Precarity: The Case of Victorian Clothing WorkersJust Policy: A Journal of Australian Social Policy

By , on September 01, 2005

Abstract: Clothing outworkers are some of the most exploited and marginalised workers in the Australian labour market. If trade unions are to be seen as meaningful organisations to these workers, they will require innovative strategies to gain trust and help migrants organise around the workplace issues. The model of community unionism is suggested which offers some valuable insights and alternative possibilities on how to think about mobilising precarious workers such as outworkers.
