Statistics on Street Vendors and Market Traders in Metropolitan Lima and Urban Peru

By on June 01, 2017

A national household survey, in this case Peru’s Encuesta Nacional de Hogares, provides unique data on street vendors and market traders.

Based on this survey, the brief reviews trends in street vending and market trade in Lima and in urban Peru between 2004 and 2015. It also provides analysis of the comparative working conditions of street vendors and market traders which in turn sheds light on whether market trade provides a better livelihood than street vending.
