Marion Deschamps

Production Support Consultant

Bio

Hailing from Southern France, Marion joins WIEGO’s Communication Team after her career as a Quito-based journalist, in Ecuador, covering grassroots struggles in the global South for a Pan-Latin American news organization. Her coverage focused on gender violence and racism, land conflict and food security, ecosystems, and biodiversity. After studying classical and modern humanities, she obtained her Master’s Degree in political sciences at the Sorbonne-Nouvelle/Institute of Latin American Studies. Her thesis investigated the organization of the armed militias supporting Chavismo in the historic barrio del 23 de Enero in Caracas, Venezuela. Marion’s passion for music and dance also plays a part in her activism; under the pseudonym Marimarre, she has mixed DJ sets for Quito’s principal trans and non-binary collectives, in which she was heavily invested. She co-produces the radio show “Greenroom Para Todxs” about gardening, pets, and cultural appropriation in the music industry for a radio station based in Los Angeles, where she lived for a year.
