Yuleina Carmona

Yuleina Carmona is part of WIEGO’s Focal Cities Team since 2017 and is based in Mexico City, where she provides logistical and administrative support. She is originally from Venezuela and has spent the last ten years of her life on the move. Her experiences as a migrant, motivated her to undertake a Master Degree in Migration Studies (Université Lille-3, Babes-Bolyai University) with a specialisation in Gender Studies (National Autonomous University of Mexico, UNAM). As a South American feminist and queer activist, among others, Yuleina is actively involved in actions to decriminalise abortion in Latin America. Her specific interests are diverse and involve: Collective processes of organising from the Global South, from informal workers to indigenous forms of existence and resistance in defence of territory; Affectivity and identity (re)configurations in migration trajectories;Decolonial feminist epistemologies. Yuleina also has a passion for languages and is a professional translator/interpreter in three languages: Spanish, English and French; and provides translation support.
