Improving the Availability and Quality of Individual-level Data on Women and Youth in Living Standards Measurement Study (LSMS)

A group of experts and institutions focused on women and youth employment policy and research convened in Rome, Italy, from November 28 - 29, 2018  for the inception workshop of a World Bank project entitled, 'Improving the Availability and Quality of Individual-level Data on Women and Youth in Living Standards Measurement Study (LSMS) surveys.'

The main objective of this workshop was to help shape the World Bank's approach as it looks to develop and systematize improved methodologies and guidelines for the collection of household survey data on rural women and youth employment in low- and middle-income countries thereby enhancing the quality and availability of survey data to inform policies and programs.

The expectation was for the discussion to result in specific, practical guidance for the project team, and possibly in the development of a network of interested experts and institutions, the project can collaborate with in the future.

WIEGO's former Director of Statistics, Joann Vanek, provided guidance for options and approaches to improve the availability and quality of data on rural women and youth employment are discussed.
