The 30th World Congress of the Public Service International (PSI) took place on October 30, 2017 in Geneva, Switzerland. The event is held every five years, and was to approve the Programme of Action for the 2018-2022 period. Titled People Over Profit, the programme was to guide PSI global action over a five-year period.
WIEGO’s Waste Picker coordinator for Latin America, Federico Parra, attended the event in order to explore the possible links with the international unions associations and the informal workers.
Public Services International is a global trade union federation of more than 20 million workers, represented by over 700 unions in 154 countries and territories, dedicated to promoting quality public services in every part of the world. Its members work in social services, health care, municipal and community services, central government, and public utilities such as water and electricity.
