Mexico City, Mexico
On Monday, 6 May 2019, WIEGO and COPRED hosted a press conference in Mexico City where they released a document that includes a series of demands from workers - a direct result of mesas which were held in late February.
COPRED and WIEGO planned to launch a photo-video campaign which highlights informal work in Mexico City during this event.
Attendees also had the opportunity to view a photo exhibition at the end of the event. The photo-video campaign, as well as the photo exhibition, sought to highlight the discrimination issues faced by informal workers in Mexico City and offered the ideal platform to promote and dignify informal work in general.
Workers from different occupational groups including un-salaried workers (shoe shiners, trovador and norteño musicians, organilleros, magazine sellers, artisans, coffee vendors); street vendors (tianguistas); and waste pickers were in attendance.
