The Informal Sector and Informal Employment in Indonesia

This report contains the findings of the 2009 National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas) (second round conducted on 8–1 August 2009) and the second phase, the Informal Sector Survey (ISS). which was conducted in two pilot provinces (Yogyakarta and Banten).

The surveys were carried out by the BPS-Statistics Indonesia with the technical assistance of the Asian Development Bank. The topics on which data are reported include formal and informal employment, characteristics of informal sector enterprises and the contribution of the informal sector to gross domestic production.

Recommendations are also included for institutionalizing data on informal employemnt and the informal sector as part of regular statistics collected by Statistics Indonesia.
