The Africa Platform on Social Protection (APSP) Conference “Rights Based Social Protection in Africa: Opportunities, Lessons and Future Implications” took place between October 18th and 20th 2017 in Maputo as part of Mozambique’s Social Protection Week. The conference also doubled as a meeting of the Rights Based Social Protection in Africa Project Steering Committee, a collaboration between the Friederich Ebert Stiftung’s Zambia Office, the ITUC Africa (African Regional Organisation of the International Trade Union Confederation), the APSP and WIEGO. WIEGO’s Social Protection Programme Director, Laura Alfers, and Pamhidzai H. Bamu-Chipunza, Africa Coordinator of WIEGO’s Law Programme participated in the event.
At the conference, Pamhidzai coordinated a session on “The Social Protection Rights of Workers in the Informal Economy,” focusing on the legal aspects of social protection for informal workers.
